The short answer
The best adjustable-height workbench is the Northsky M2-9001: a published 27.9 to 43.4 in. working range — the widest here — with a 2,200 lb claimed main-surface load, a 500 lb lower shelf and casters in the box. For the finest adjustment, the CAMMOO 48 x 24 publishes ten steps at 1.34 in. each. For powered changes mid-job, the FLEXISPOT electric bench has the deepest top at 30 inches.
The most flexible bench of the group: the broadest height range, casters in the box, and a USB-C port — on an engineered-wood top rather than solid hardwood.
The most adjustable bench here: ten height steps and a shelf that moves with your stuff, for people who would rather have flexibility than a locking cabinet.
The deepest top here and the only one that changes height at the touch of a button — worth it if you switch between seated detail work and standing assembly constantly.
The rolling bench that actually stores things: six drawers, a keyed cabinet and a 37.5 in. height that parks under shelving, at the cost of half the static rating.

Why height adjustment is worth paying for
Garage work is not one task at one height. Rebuilding a carburetor wants the work close to your eyes. Assembling a shelf unit wants it low enough to lean on. Sanding wants it high enough that you are pushing with your arms rather than your back. A fixed 37.5 in. bench is a compromise with all three.
The practical test of a bench's range is whether it spans the two figures that matter for you: wrist height for general work, and about four inches above that for close detail. Most people's wrist height is somewhere between 30 and 36 inches, so a bench that only goes from 36 to 40 is adjustable in a way that does not help.
Ranges exactly as each maker publishes them. The Eltean is here as the fixed-height benchmark, not as an adjustable bench.

The widest range: Northsky M2-9001
Twenty-seven point nine inches to 43.4 inches is a 15.5-inch span, and nothing else here comes close. At the bottom of the range you can work sitting on a stool; at the top you are standing upright over close work with no bend in your back at all.
It publishes both of the load figures that matter — 2,200 lb claimed for the main surface, 500 lb for the lower shelf — and it ships with casters as well as feet, so it converts between mobile and planted without buying anything. The power strip includes USB-C as well as USB-A, which in 2026 is the port your tools actually charge from.
The compromise is the top: 1 in. engineered wood, not solid hardwood. It will take clamps and it will take abuse, but it will not be planed flat repeatedly. If that matters, the fix is a hardwood slab over it — workbench top materials covers the options.
The finest adjustment: CAMMOO 48 x 24
Ten positions at 1.34 inches per step is the most granular adjustment in this group, and granularity matters more than people expect. A bench that jumps in three-inch increments will always be an inch and a half away from right.
It also publishes its leg steel thickness (1.5 mm), which almost nothing in this category does, and the under-top metal shelf repositions over 13.4 inches of travel — so a tall item does not cost you the shelf entirely. The pegboard is attached to the bench rather than your wall, which is the right call for a bench you may move.
At 38.7 in. nominal it is set up for standing work. For seated work you are dropping it a long way down the range, and at 77 lb with no casters that repositioning is a two-person job.
The long one, and the electric one
The CAMMOO WBW70 is 70 inches of solid rubberwood — the only bench here long enough for trim, shelving stock or a bumper. What makes it belong on this page is that CAMMOO publishes the height range for each mode separately: 31.2 to 41.8 in. on casters, 28.2 to 38.8 in. on feet. That is the honest way to spec a bench that ships with both, and it is a detail most makers quietly skip. The catch is depth: 20 inches is the shallowest here, and a mitre saw overhangs it.
The FLEXISPOT electric bench is the one to buy if you will actually change the height mid-job. Its 48 x 30 in. top is the deepest in this group, and depth is what automotive work needs. It uses the same lift-column family as FLEXISPOT's office desks, which is a mature product line. It needs a permanent outlet, it has a motorized failure point a knob does not, and it has no storage at all.

Where it wins
+Ten height positions is the finest adjustment in this group — you can actually dial in a comfortable elbow height
+The under-top shelf moves on the leg holes, so tall items fit without losing the shelf entirely
+Publishes leg steel thickness (1.5 mm), which is more than most
+No-drill pegboard travels with the bench rather than living on your wall
Where it doesn’t
−No drawers and no lockable cabinet — open storage only
−38.7 in. maximum height suits standing work; seated work needs the bench dropped well down
−At 77 lb it is a two-person lift despite having no casters

#5Best for rolling bench with drawers
Eltean YDGZT-01 55" Rolling Workbench
8.1/10our score, from published specs
The rolling bench that actually stores things: six drawers, a keyed cabinet and a 37.5 in. height that parks under shelving, at the cost of half the static rating.
What the maker publishes
37.5 in. H x 55 in. W x 19.7 in. D (58.3 in. wide with handles)
1,000 lb claimed maximum capacity, sheet-steel construction
6 drawers on slides (4 narrow, 2 wide) plus 2 cabinet doors

Screwdriver holes in the handles (13 positions); 108 lb

Where it wins
+Six drawers and a lockable cabinet on a bench you can roll out to the car and back
+37.5 in. height clears most wall shelving, so it parks where a 65 in. bench cannot
+The handle doubles as a 13-slot screwdriver rack, which is the kind of detail that earns its keep
+Side pegboards ventilate the cabinet, which genuinely matters if you store solvents
Where it doesn’t
−1,000 lb is less than half the static rating of the fixed steel benches
−19.7 in. deep: narrow, and the drawers eat into usable knee space
−Drawer slides are described but never rated, so per-drawer load is unknown
Set the height before you mount anything to the wall
An adjustable bench makes one mistake easy: mounting the pegboard and the task light before the bench has found its final height. Tools want to be at chest height when you are standing at the bench, and a light wants to clear your head without being shadowed by it — both of which depend on where the top ends up.
The Northsky M2-9001, because its published range is the widest here — 27.9 to 43.4 inches — which covers seated detail work through tall standing assembly, and it ships with both casters and a published 2,200 lb main-surface claim. If you want the finest adjustment rather than the widest range, the CAMMOO 48 x 24 has ten steps at 1.34 inches each.
What height should an adjustable bench be set to?+
Stand relaxed with your arms at your sides and measure floor to wrist crease; that figure is a good general-purpose height. Go 2 to 3 inches lower for hand-planing and about 4 inches higher for detail work at eye level. The full arithmetic is in what height should a garage workbench be.
Is an electric adjustable workbench worth it?+
Only if you genuinely switch between seated and standing work in the same session. The FLEXISPOT electric bench has the deepest top here at 30 inches and changes height at the touch of a button — which means you will actually change it mid-job rather than putting up with the wrong height. The cost is a mains tether and a motorized failure point a knob does not have.
Do adjustable benches carry less than fixed ones?+
Not necessarily. The Northsky publishes 2,200 lb for its main surface and the CAMMOO benches claim 2,000 lb, which is the same territory as the fixed steel benches on this site. What adjustability costs you here is storage: none of these has drawers or a locking cabinet.
Casters or leveling feet?+
Feet for anything that applies lateral force, casters for a bench that needs to move. The CAMMOO WBW70 ships with both and publishes a separate height range for each mode, which is the honest way to spec it — a bench on casters sits about three inches taller than the same bench on feet.
CAMMOO 48 x 24 in. workbench listing — Published 10-level height adjustment at 1.34 in. per step, 38.7 in. nominal height, 1.5 mm steel legs, repositionable under-top shelf.
CAMMOO WBW70 listing — Published six height settings quoted separately for casters (31.2-41.8 in.) and leveling feet (28.2-38.8 in.).
