The real argument for 8 ft
It is not light quality and it is not price. It is labor.
To get 30,000 lumens into a two-car garage you need four 4 ft fixtures at 7,500 lm, or two 8 ft fixtures at 15,000 lm. That is:
Eight mounting points versus four. Each one is a stud or joist to find, a hole to drill, a hook to fit.
Four cords versus two. Each one has to be routed somewhere tidy and reach a plug.
Four fixtures to level versus two. A crooked fixture is visible from across a garage.
Halving all of that is a genuine saving on a Saturday, and it is why commercial installations use the longest fixture that fits.
The real argument for 4 ft
You can do it alone
A 4 ft fixture weighs about a pound and you hold it with one hand while fitting the second hook. An 8 ft fixture is 2.2 lb and eight feet long, and holding one end up while you walk a ladder to the other end is how fixtures get bent.
It survives shipping
An eight-foot package is harder for a courier to handle and easier to bend. This is a known annoyance with 8 ft fixtures and the reason to inspect on arrival before you hang anything.
You can buy in stages
One 4 ft fixture over the bench now, three more when you know where everything is going. That is how most garages actually get lit, and an 8 ft fixture is a much bigger single step.
Better link limits
hykolity's 4-footers link up to 6; Barrina's T5 strips link up to 8. On the 8 ft side, Barrina's T8 links 4 and SHOPLED states no more than 3 at once — on a 4-pack, which means two circuits by the maker's own instruction.
More even light
Four light sources spread across a ceiling produce fewer shadows than two, for the same total lumens. In a garage where you work in several places, that is worth something.
Watts per chain: the limit that bites 8 ft harder
Linkable fixtures share a plug, so the chain limit and the per-fixture wattage multiply together.

Three hundred watts on one cord and one plug is where you should be thinking about the cord rating and about splitting across circuits. With 4 ft fixtures you hit the fixture-count limit before you hit a concerning wattage; with 8 ft fixtures the wattage arrives first.

Where it wins
+130 lm/W is the highest published efficacy in this group — that is real money off the electricity bill over a decade
+Selectable CCT lets you set 4000K over a bench and 5000K over the bay, from one product
+Three wattage levels means one fixture type works in a tall garage and a low one
+Switch is on the fixture, so no wall switch to wire
Where it doesn’t
−No CRI published, so color-critical work (paint matching, detailing) is a judgment call
−Selectable CCT means a toggle switch someone will knock to the wrong setting
−Linking six units at 42W is 252W on one plug — fine, but check the cord rating
For a large garage you are lighting in one session with help, yes — half the mounting points and half the cords for the same total light. For a garage you are lighting one fixture at a time, or if you are working alone, 4 ft is easier in every practical respect.
How many 8 ft lights do I need for a 2-car garage?+
Two, at 15,000 lumens each, gives you 30,000 lumens across roughly 450 sq ft — which is at the top of the 50-75 lumens per square foot band. Two 8 ft fixtures is also a very simple install: four mounting points and one cord run.
Do 8 ft fixtures arrive damaged?+
More often than 4 ft ones, which is simple physics — an eight-foot package is harder to handle and easier to bend in transit. Inspect on arrival before you hang anything, and buy from a seller with a straightforward returns path.
Can one person mount an 8 ft fixture?+
Possible with a helper hook or a temporary support, awkward otherwise. The fixtures are light — Barrina's is 2.2 lb — but eight feet of anything above your head on a ladder wants a second pair of hands. Plan for help.
Which links better?+
4 ft, generally. hykolity's 4-footers link up to 6; Barrina's T5 strips link up to 8. On the 8 ft side, Barrina's T8 links 4 and SHOPLED caps its own chain at 3. And because 8 ft fixtures draw more, the watts-per-chain limit bites sooner.
